Decisions, Decisions

I think it all started with something like "you should take the girls for a road trip this summer, get some camping in and maybe get out to NY or PA"..... unbeknownst to Dan it quickly transformed to "we could get to OR to see family, and to CA, MT and CO to see friends, wait, we could check out The Grand Canyon, and Yosemite, and....."

Initially I had naively planned about 3+ weeks, thinking I wanted to be home by the 4th of July. But the list of hopeful stops kept increasing. As much as I'm in love with the redundancy of little ol' Amherst's 4th of July parade (it's really more the multiple day celebration at the lake with family and friends) I came to terms with the fact that it would be OK if I missed one, just one. There really is nothing like the small town celebration though.
A little sad to miss our annual photo with Uncle Sam

So, here we are, just a few weeks out from our tentative departure and I can't stop thinking about what a once in a lifetime opportunity this really is, and how much we're going to miss because we just don't have the time! I want to see it all! The girls are excited, but I don't think they know for what. Mckenzie really wanted to get to CA to meet Marmaduke (yup, from a movie. Think she'll be disappointed when we can't find him?) and Sierra is just excited. They seemed slightly dismayed when I told them we weren't going up to Alaska and we couldn't make it to Africa or Japan. I'm hoping they'll forget about that once we hit the road.

So, here's the tentative drive, as of today. I'm planning for an adventure and letting things unravel as we go. I only have a few places that have hard dates associated with them, otherwise it's open to fate. Maybe we'll end up in Mexico. Know any stops along this route that I should put on my agenda? I'm especially boggled by the Southeast. Once we get through CO my agenda is wide open..... where to go???
